Churches in England & Wales have been keeping records of baptisms, marriages and deaths at parish level for hundreds of years, but civil registration and record keeping of all births, marriages and deaths did not start until July 1837. For the researcher or genealogist, marriages, unlike births, have the advantage of being registered immediately at the time of the marriage. That means you should have an exact date of marriage and will find the entry for the marriage in the same quarter. 192’s marriage records do not extend as far as the present day MORE>>>
The quarters contain the deaths registered within them, which is not always the same as deaths which took place in them. The reason is that legally deaths have to be registered within five days of the event but sometimes were registered late. For example a coroner’s inquest would considerably delay the issue of a death certificate. MORE>>>
